Dongguan Agarwood Heritage
Agarwood Plantation Overview

Hi, I'm Huang Ou. My family has been cultivating agarwood in Dongguan for generations. Growing up, I spent my days in the mountains, surrounded by the scent of agarwood trees. But after college, I craved the outside world. I tried selling machinery, bicycles, and worked in an office—anything to escape the quiet of the forest.

"It's like the scent took me back to my childhood," he said. "I felt calm, like walking in a sunlit forest. It cleared my mind completely."

That moment changed everything. I realized our family's agarwood wasn't just a crop—it was a way to heal. I decided to revive our family craft: using my grandmother's traditional methods to make Dongguan agarwood incense sticks, hoping to help others find peace through nature's power.

Thirty-five years later, that decision has become my life's work. Our small family plantation has grown into a 3,400-acre ecological conservation park, and I've become the fourth-generation national intangible cultural heritage inheritor of this craft. Every stick of incense is still handmade, just as my grandmother did—no chemicals, only the pure scent of Dongguan's agarwood.

I invite you to explore our plantation through the videos and photos below. Come visit us in Dongguan, walk among the agarwood trees, and try your hand at crafting incense the traditional way. Here, in the quiet of the forest, you might just find the peace you've been seeking.

Agarwood Trees

Our Agarwood Plantation

Here is my agarwood plantation in Dongguan. This 3,400-acre ecological conservation park is where our precious agarwood trees grow under the careful stewardship of generations. Each tree is meticulously cared for, embodying our commitment to sustainable cultivation and the preservation of this ancient tradition.

Walking through these forests, you experience the same tranquility that has defined our family's connection to nature for over a century. The plantation not only produces the finest agarwood but also serves as a sanctuary for local biodiversity.

Dongguan Agarwood Museum

To help more people understand the benefits of agarwood, we established the Dongguan Agarwood Museum, where all the mysteries of Dongguan agarwood are unveiled.

The museum showcases the 2000-year history of agarwood cultivation in China, displaying ancient tools, traditional processing techniques, and artifacts that trace the evolution of this revered craft. Interactive exhibits allow visitors to experience the sensory journey of agarwood from tree to incense.

Private Agarwood Cellar

Private Agarwood Cellar

This is my private agarwood cellar, where I store Dongguan agarwood from different eras of the plantation. Here, precious agarwood resin ages gracefully in carefully controlled conditions, developing deeper complexity and richer aromas over time.

The cellar contains specimens dating back to my great-grandfather's time, each with its own story and unique fragrance profile. This living archive represents the continuity of our tradition and the patience required to produce truly exceptional agarwood.

Touxiang - The First Harvest

Touxiang - The First Harvest

This is the first piece of Dongguan agarwood raw material harvested after the incense-gathering ceremony in our park. We call it "Touxiang".

The harvesting of Touxiang is a ceremonial event that marks the beginning of each season. It represents the purest expression of the tree's resin and is considered the most auspicious harvest. Each piece of Touxiang is treated with reverence and transformed into our most exclusive incense products.
